What a wonderful evening we had this past Tuesday night. Our brothers, Noach and Yochanan returned from the Land and the audio of the second hour is there ruminations of their trip, along with an opening by Greg Upham, finishing up the review of his time in Israel for the High Holy Days and Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). Joe Gordon also shared for a few minutes about his time in the Land as well. Noach played a semi-finished video clip from the trip, which I have edited out of the audio. My hope is that he will finish the editing process and send it for us all to watch. When that happens, I’ll post it here.

I cannot begin to thank Rick Spurlock enough for migrating his normal practice of teaching an empty room – to teaching our group of tzadikim (righteous men). Class audio 7a is actually 1John Lesson 0. It is available here at Men of Torah, and I’m sure it will be available at Bereans Online as well. The workbook is not complete yet, as Rick mentioned in class, but the first few chapters are here for you to begin your study now. This document will be updated as Rick completes the remaining lessons. We will be learning the practical aspects of 1John over the coming months.

This Shabbat (Sabbath) is a community Shabbat for our fellowship, Bella Torah. I can’t wait! It’s such a blessing to pray with everyone – and then have Oneg (delight) with brothers and sisters… and then the wonderful portion discussion. Greg Upham has asked if we could begin recording the discussion time, so his daughter and son-in-law can join in remotely. Tomorrow, we will begin that practice. The guests and seekers that come are so precious to assist and bless. I’m hoping to see several tomorrow. I hope you will join me in welcoming them in the Name of the Holy One.

This coming Tuesday we will continue with our apologetic of the messiahship of Yeshua HaNotrzri (Jesus the Nazarene). We’ll compare some of the passages that John refers to from the Tanach – and the unique way that he does his quoting.

I want to recommend Rabbi Jeremy Gimpel’s new audio series, The Prophets of Israel Revealed. He is starting with the Book of Joshua in this Israel Inspired Audio, and I love it. I think our good Rabbi has tipped his hand a bit, and given us some further insight into the conservative concerns with Yeshua as Messiah. I would love to hear your thoughts, as Jeremy describes Joshua as “the prophet like unto Moses.” Don’t be shy… click the Comment button…

Tomorrow night, when the Sabbath ends, and you make Havdalah (separation), I encourage you to also practice Kiddush Levannah (Sanctification of the Moon), and pray the prayers associated with this special monthly time. The source for this prayer is in the Talmud tractate Sanhedrin 42a, which says, “whoever blesses the month in its proper time, receives the Divine Presence.” The Talmud further teaches in the name of Rabbi Yishmael, “if Israel had only merited to receive the Divine Presence once per month, it would have been sufficient for them.” Abayye notes that since it is such a great mitzvah (commandment), it should be recited while standing. Did you know that traditionally, women do not work on Rosh Chodesh (New Moon)? More on that some other time… but think about the parallels…

Good Shabbos,

PS: You can download the audio for class 7 here, as well as the 1 John workbook, and the Hebrew AlephBet page which Joshua Nunez handed out, in order for you to prepare for future classes.
