We had lively discussion last night regarding “The Gate and the Narrow Way.” I appreciate everyone’s input! Let’s look at the pearls I attempted to string from the Scriptures:

The Righteous Hear His Voice and Obey

HaShem says that through Abraham all the goyim of the earth shall be blessed, because Abraham obeyed His voice. (Genesis 22:18)

Yeshua told Pilate that everyone who is of the truth hears His voice. (John 18:37)

Yeshua said His sheep hear His voice and they follow Him. (John 10:27)

Yeshua said He has other sheep, not of this fold and they will hear His voice. (John 10:16)

The non-prodigal son said, I have never neglected a command of yours. (Luke 15:29)

The Gate (Yeshua) is at the End of the Narrow Way – or the End of the Pasturing Day

Yeshua told of the man who leaves the 99 sheep in the open pasture until he finds the one lost. (Luke 15:4)

Yeshua said He is the door of the sheep. (John 10:7)

Yeshua said no one comes to the Father but through Himself. (John 14:6)

Yeshua said to enter life through the narrow gate, which is small. (Matthew 7:13-14)

Yeshua implored His disciples to strive to enter through the narrow door. (Luke 13:24)

Reward is Given to the Obedient in the World To Come

Yeshua said a righteous man shall not lose his reward. (Matthew 10:42)

The prodigal son’s father said, you have always been with me and all that is mine is yours. (Luke 15:31)

Those blessed of the Father (the sheep on Yeshua’s right hand) possess the kingdom for acts of righteousness toward Yeshua’s brothers without recognizing Yeshua. (Matthew 25:34,40)

The Obedient and Righteous Practice/Perform Righteous Deeds of the Torah

Yeshua said of the Pharisees, it is not those who are healthy who need a physician. (Matthew 9:12)

Yeshua said of the Pharisees, He did not come to call the righteous but the sinners. (Matthew 9:13)

Yeshua said those who practice the truth come to the Light so their deeds may be manifested as having been wrought by G-d. (John 3:21)

Abraham was chosen so that he would command his children and his household to keep the way of the L-rd by doing righteousness. (Genesis 18:19)

Paul contrasts the righteous with those who take pleasure in wickedness. (2 Thessalonians 2:12)

Paul said the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward G-d, does not subject itself to the Torah – and is not able to do so. (Romans 8:7)

Since we have met Orthodox Jews in today’s world that:

  • Love HaShem and sanctify His Name
  • Perform righteous deeds of the Torah motivated by simply obedience
  • Despise idolatry – reject professional Christianity’s Jesus for this reason – in obedience to the Torah
  • Take no pleasure in wickedness

The Scriptures seem to teach that these will not lose their reward in the World to Come – surprised that they have practiced righteousness in Yeshua’s Name – without realizing His identity.

If this is true – how do we reconcile this string of pearls with John’s exhortation regarding deceivers?

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Yeshua haMashiach as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. (2 John 7)

More study required! Our second hour blended somewhat with the first, but my desire was to establish some groundwork involving the Will of G-d. Audio and presentation are available on the Resource Page.

Let me know your thoughts…

Shalom,

Yosef ben Yosef
